Intro

The NBA Finals are over. The confetti that fell from American Airlines Area is cleaned up. The lights to the gym are turned off, and the seats are empty. The locker rooms no longer smell of champagne and sweaty men. The fan section no longer has popcorn and spilled soda sticking to the floor. It is all over. The Miami Heat repeat as champions, and the off-season begins.

If you are a sports fanatic or NBA junky you knew coming into the NBA season what the headline stories would be. Will King James be dethroned from Championship number 2? Will his supporting cast be up for the Challenge? Is LBJ the best player in the NBA? Anyone could tell you that Lebron James would be the focus throughout the regular season. This young man has been in the spot light his entire career, dating back to his high school, The Fighting Irish. Since living in Akron Ohio, LBJ has had to deal with flashing cameras, over aggressive media and rude analysis since a teen, comparisons to MJ and Kobe Byrant, his place in history, his mark on the NBA brand. At the age of 28, LBJ has been given a lot of responsibility (A lot of which he has not asked for/Some of which he did). All of this, not allowing, Lebron to be Lebron.

The Expectations

On June 26th, 2003 the NBA was given an instant attraction. Though the draft was filled with 3 other superstars (Do you remember who they are), they did not receive the hype, in which the kid from Akron received. This kid was already given the crown, and an audience was waiting to see if the crown fit perfectly. At the age of 17 he was given the nick name “The Chosen One, by Greg Kelly an SI senior editor (NBA Players usually do not come up with nicknames for themselves/If they did it was whack or not really a nickname), talked to NBA superstars on a regular basis (Tracy MacGrady, Antoine Walker, and coach John Locus of Cleveland at the time) and also spent time with rap legend Jay Z. Not to mention the $100 million dollar endorsements deals before a game on the hardwood.

His path and hype was like no other superstar who has ever entered the NBA nor any other professional sport. The expectations from no other individual have been this high. The pressure from teammates, organizations, fans and media was at its all-time high, not to mention he was still 17-18 at the time. Entering something new is easy when you have nothing to lose. The world (for some reason) gives you 1-2 years to mess up and make mistakes. Everything after that is considered a fail or you will be highly criticized for your actions. It only took 1 year for the world to focus in on LBJ and his progress as a superstar, and what he has YET to accomplish. Or better yet what he has to accomplish to be considered great. How did he respond?

Doubters

All of this and the world still doubts what he can do:

Overcome

Everyone makes mistakes. We go through life and learn from the decisions we make as an adult and as a kid. If we did not make mistakes and go through ups and downs we would not learn as much as we learn and grow as much as we grow. Everyone has their reasons for why they dislike Lebron James. Moving from Cleveland to Miami. The Decision. The way he plays the game. The way he speaks. What he does in the community. Possibly even the things he eats. How he works out. Some simply have no reason at all. Some just like to follow a trend that is floating in the media (The Bad Guy). Some just hate hearing comparisons to him and other players.

Lebron is amongst very few players (in the world of sports) who have been hated for being so damn good. Hated for making life choices, he felt (key word “HE”) would be best for him. Everyone believes to know what is right for Lebron James. In the mean time, he continues to do what he feels is right for himself. There comes a time in life where you have to make choices for you, you can either allow others to dictate future goals and dreams, or you can decide to determine these experiences and expectations on your own.

Lebron James went through a variety of hatred. Scooter Magruder has it all in his 2012 skit Stuff Lebron James Haters Say

Scooter makes a point of emphasizes to show that no matter what LBJ does throughout his career, people will always find a way to hate him, or dislike his accomplishment. And this does not “only” go for Lebron, James, this is a fact for everyone. Know matter how good or great you are at something, people will always try to find a way to bring you down, or make you feel less of a person. It is up to you to manage this storm, and come up with ways to weather the storm.

 Focus

Spending 7 years in Cleveland without a ring left Lebron upset and hungry for better results. A Decision in 2010 rocked the sports world and easily gave fans and media something to hold onto for a lifetime. Another loss in the 2011 NBA Finals to Dallas made one think and take a better look in the mirror.

The lessons learned through experience have forced Lebron into one or 2 mindsets. He could either allow others to determine his future or take control. Lebrons latest decision was overlooked this year. Lebron decided to block out all of those who negatively affected his game. He used these (Haters) individuals as motivation to create one he best all time performances over an NBA season/playoffs. And he said it best when he received his MVP award in-game 7.

Last Thoughts:

All of your failures should be used as motivation. The pressure and outside influences are more reasons why you should want to be successful. This should be the gas for your engine. Never take a negative comment too serious. Never allow a word or gesture to go to the heart. Use it. And create something out of it.

Be Awesome Africa Day 1 Results

Hey everyone,

Day one is in the books and Be Awesome Africa is  underway !

Our goal for week one:

Facebook storm!

What we want to do with week one is shower the largest social media network in the world with post, re-post, statues and private messages about our campaign! It is still very early in regards to where we are in funds and publicity, but we believe that Facebook Storm will be a large part of our success. This week up until next Wednesday, the facebook team will post like crazy, and message as many of our friends about Be Awesome Africa.

What can you do? We ask that you do the same. You may not want to get to crazy (it can get annoying for most people) but a private message is better than a direct link on someone’s wall (Unless you are comfortable doing do). Copy the link: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/be-awesome-africa/x/3442576?c=home and send it to all of your friends and family!

Contributions: Thank everyone who has funded our project on Day 1. Our project is 6% completed and we are so pumped about that! With lots of time left we are confident in reaching our final goal $27,993 !!!

Until next time!

Put your BIG BOY pants on!

If you had the chance to read my last blog you probably know that I’ve been really busy. School is wrapping up, and ever day it feels like I have something else I have to  complete. A bit overwhelmed to say the lease. With that, I found myself thinking to often, and spending too much time on negative thoughts and energy. How can I do this? What if this doesn’t work? I spent a lot of time worrying about the what if? and how comes? These are all questions that make our bodies and minds think negatively or upset about something instantly. We carry these questions with us for days and until we find answers. Some of us carry these questions for months and years.

I started acting different. My response to simple conversation. Daily interactions with others. Emails. Phone calls. Everything. And you know what, it wasn’t me. I spent one day apologizing to everyone I thought I made upset. All because of one or two things I was unsure about. Then I thought, why am I making these individuals suffer because of my problems. Or my issues. What do I need to do to get out of this slump?

To do this, I normally tell myself “Put your Big Boy Pants on” and stop complaining. Take a look at the bigger picture, and realize that things aren’t so bad. For starters I look at my surroundings and block out anything that bothers me. Anything that is negatively affecting my goals or dreams. If you have a goal you need to protect it. Some people do not realize when they are stopping others from doing what they love. You need to harness that mindset and make changes that are going to affect your future in a good way.Block out the frustration by looking forward to the big picture. Life is about taking the necessary steps to reach your ultimate goals. Everything in between is called a “lesson” or “experience”. You should never allow a lesson or experience that is taking place, overcome and shadow your ultimate goals.

Take a look at the BIG PICTURE. Once you have this picture in your mind, you can always find ways to benefit from negative experiences you go through in life. That worry (or thought) that continuously plays in your head. The negative emotions and feelings you have about something or someone. Once, you “flip the script” and make it into a learning experience, your mindset and mood should change. Think about the advantages you have, privileges, opportunities and blessing. Is that moment of frustration worth more than all of that? I highly doubt it. We get lost in conflict, and disappear in what we call “life”. We start to see it and talk about it, but forget to live it.

“Next you need to pull up your big boy pants and tap into a mindset that allows you to block out the frustration”- Kobe

#KobeMeanMug

#KobeMeanMug

My thoughts came from Kobe Bryant on this years 2012-2013,Los Angeles Lakers, and Pau Gasol. Kobe speaks on Pau, “Put your big-boy pants on,” Kobe said with a trace of disgust in his voice. “C’mon … just adjust. You can’t whine about it or complain about it. Heck, I’m 34 years old, and I’m running screen-and-rolls out there because Steve is out, and my ass is running up and down the court more than I ever have in my entire career. But you have to adjust to it”. One thing I always find about great pro athletes are that they are able to overcome incredible odds and disfavour by simply adjusting the way they think.

There comes a point and time in life were you simply have to stop all the complaining. Feeling sorry for yourself. Making excuses as to why things are the way they are. Making other individuals lives miserable because you think yours is as well. Take an oath, and start creating and environment that allows you to exceed beyond expectation. Stop thinking negatively about yourself. Stop allowing others to dictate what you do and how you do it. Put your big boy pants on and lead your future. Hey, if this does not interest you, others will gladly do it for you. That is all for now.

Be AWESOME Updates: New Line, Awesome Project, YouTube Collaboration and MORE!

Before anything, I would like to apologize for haven’t posting anything in a while. Things have been really busy here in Kuwait over the past number of weeks. In and between teaching and report cards, and finalizing some big ideas for the worlds fastest growing motivational brand, its been a ride I am sure I will never forget.

So what’s new:

My Life: Besides the 25 report cards I had to finish this week. The grades being entered into the computer. The NBA playoffs (My poor Clippers). Being sick (cold or some sort of flu). The past few weeks have been very challenging for me. I must say, I’ve had times were I looked myself in the computer screen (because that is where I usually am) and asked myself, is it worth it. And directly after these thoughts, I asked myself, why would I even think that. I believe that if you are trying to help others in ANY kind of what it is worth it. It is worth the heart ache. The pain and the suffering. So if you are out there like me, trying to make a difference in anyones life, through friendship, parenting, mentoring, anything! Don’t feel down or upset about it. Don’t let your ego, or hard work get in the way of making someone else’s life more fulfilling. Believe in good faith, and all that good faith will come back to you. Keep grinding everyone!

We are going to release a news letter a week, that will let everyone know what we are doing as an organization, and what they can look forward to as we prep for a crazy and fulfilled summer.

Charities/Organizations: We’ve locked down a number of cool charities and NGO’s that we are really excited about. We are unable to confirm their involvement just yet because of paper work that has to be filed and returned. We currently have 6 that are really interested, and 3 that have confirmed they want to get involved! For a start, that is AWESOME. The tough part about this is, I am still me. My friends know me, my followers (kinda know me), and these individuals, do not know me at all. I understand that it is hard to trust people now a days, and that is what I am trying to build this company with “TRUST”. To those of you who’ve given me the go, and have shown the smallest amount of interest, I am honoured and I thank you for that! Stay in the loop for more on these organizations and what they have to offer. We will be working with some awesome people!

Website: For me this has been the most challenging part of my early stages of building this brand. In the past it was easy (well not easy, but sort of in a way that I needed to get things and the word out there as fast as possible) things were kind of rushed, and not done professionally (in my opinion). This time everything is being done in progress. We are taking the steps to make this company “real”. Not just an online store. Not just a fancy website with cool pictures. We are going to re-vamp the way you look at websites and the value of information you receive.

Our new look is clean, photo heavy, and dependent on motivation and inspiration by you. You will find daily motivation to keep you going. Clean images for reminders of what life really means. People and stories to think about. We are giving you a place to come, relax, take some time out of your day and really find the meaning of life. What we have so far is #AWESOME. I cannot say more, about the guys at www.qnacreatives.com and what they’ve done for me as a new company. All I can say is stay tuned! You are sure to be impressed by our decisions on this website.

awesome10New Line: Lots of exciting news in regards to our new line and what we’ve decided to do with what the world provides to us. We are changing the look and feel of the shirts “entirely”. New logo’s (as you can see), new designs but the same motivation and purpose. We’ve taken a sweat-shop free approach to our-line that includes a number of incentives that we will release through our newsletter. We are excited about this change and we hope you are to. Our fitted tees and sweaters will be more dry, comfy and motivational. We plan to release a number of limited edition products as well.

The Awesome Project: If you haven’t read the news letter, I will give you a little run down, as to what this is all about. This project is about spreading Awesome around the world. We’ve decided that how else can we do this, other than taking a boat load of tees around the world each year and spreading them to everyone we possibly see and contact ourselves with. People on the airplane, restaurants, playgrounds, villages, families, schools, teams, you name it. Our goal is to visit 5 continents in 5 years and give out 200+ tees to a given country, state or province in each continent. Again, stay in the loop for more information on this project and how you can get involved!

Topic - Youtube-676854Youtube collaboration: I can’t give you too much on this until I sign the papers and send the information BUT let’s just say Be Awesome will (inshallah) be working with and up and coming YouTube start on a new Be Awesome Commercial!

THE TIME IS NOW PEOPLE! BE AWESOME!

When things get rough? #DONTQUIT

331: When things get tough

#Ali

The Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won had he stuck it out;

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,

It seems to a faint and faltering man,

Often the struggler has given up,

When he might have captured the victor’s cup,

And he learned too late when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out–

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems so far,

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–

It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Why Writing A Journal Is Important

BeAwesome: #330 Why Writing A Journal Is Important

FindSomething2WriteIn

FindSomething2WriteIn

Sometimes we need to express our thoughts. We have so much to say and no one to tell it to. Sometimes a friend is not what you are looking for. Sometimes our mom and dad are not the ears we want to express our feelings to. Sometimes your thoughts need to written instead of spoken. Here is why a writing in a journal is important:

Talk about yourself:

Who doesn’t like to toot their own horn (Talk about yourself) once in a while? A side from being cocky or full of yourself, you should be able to praise some aspects of “you” every day. We often forget that this is an important part of mental health. In your journal should reflect on how life is going, the people around you, the past and things you love most. It is an open book for you to talk about experiences and “you”. You should always be able to find something positive about your self in your journal.

Success/Scheduling

A journal is a great place to write down your goals and accomplishments. It can also be used as a schedule. For starters, you can write the things you want to complete in a day, week, month and eventually a year. A long with planning, a journal should also be used for goal setting. Making a list of things you want to accomplish is important, and should be used as a reminder for everyone.

Responsibility

Hold yourself accountable for what you write in your journal. Your journal should be a place were you tell the truth. Writing down what you truly believe will allow you to make a bigger and more realistic picture of what you want. With that, it will help you figure out how and what you need to do to get there as well.

Writing a journal today is more than, talking about a girlfriend or a boyfriend. It is not about gossip or telling yourself how much you hate your best friend, teacher or coworker. Writing a journal is about relaxing your mind. Taking you away from your normal life and writing. Writing about what makes you feel good. How things are going. What you can do to make your life more pleasurable. Journal writing is about finding you. Finding different interest. Finding what that makes you smile. Of course it can be used for sad and angry times of your life, but remember: All negative things in life should be used to motivate you in a positive light.
