TODAY

Life in Kuwait has been great (so far) ahah Everything has been going smoothly. I am blessed again, to have a great support group at home. And a core group of friends around me in Kuwait. Thanks everyone!:-) This week has been really busy for me in school, with international week coming up. Along with report cards. We’ve already been through 2 weeks since the holiday break? Time is flying. We have another break next week. A long with a February break as well. Not to mention the holiday in April. Not sure where I will end up, but I am now thinking Turkey or Lebanon. Possibly some place in Africa on the way from after school is over. I have friends that are currently living there (Lebanon & Turkey). So it may be my next destination. Africa is on the back burner for now. but I will see you soon:-)

UPDATE

Before anything I would like to apologize for the lack of updating on my Kuwait experience. The past few weeks along with the past holiday has come and gone so fast. I’ve been able to update the blog, but not necessarily allowing everyone to join me on my journey.

The last time you checked, I was watching camels and hanging out in the desert. Since then a lot has happened. I will and cannot give you everything in great detail, but I will give you a short burst of highlight, of the past couple of weeks (PS: it has been approximately 38 days since I posted) Again, terribly sorry. If wondering, I am still in Kuwait. And I am still teaching grade 2.ahaha

It’s been a while but here is what my holiday looked like:

PS: I suggest clicking on the links to other websites that explain some of the experiences I had (ie. Food, places)

BERLIN

DAY1

Arrived in Berlin during the morning. From looking out of the airplane window I could see the snow on the trees. The cold in the air. Crazy thing is, I was kind of excited. In a nutshell. I got lost. Not technically on purpose. But I went for a walk from my hostel. And ended up on a lovely street with shopping, christmas lights and markets. Went to a few stores. Saw a variety of cool people. Ate a fabulous sausage (obessed). First time in a hostel. Right away, I could tell Berlin really celebrated the holidays. Lights and happy cheers EVERYWHERE.

DAY2

We did A LOT of walking. It was fine. I definitely needed the work out. But boy did we walk. On the second day we went to the Holocaust Memorial. If you are unfamiliar with your history. It is a place dedicated to the Jewish victims during the Holocaust. It was a very intense moment for me. Again, with all of the new surroundings and such. It was a lot to take in. It snowed today. And lots of it. And wet. It was yucky! Went to the market. Ate another sausage (obsessed) and tried to find mittens (The mitten hunt begins!) Overall, successful day! PS: went to a pretty cool café that serve some tasty pastry’s as well (See pictures below)

DAY3:

It was Christmas day. Even though it really did not feel like it at all. Missing everyone from home. But we tried to just enjoy ourselves throughout the duration of our travels. What do you do on Christmas? We went to the Zoo! And was it ever fun. I got to see an elephant for the first time! Tigers. Rhinos. Penguins.  Sharks. And lots of other cool animals. It was really fun. We also went back to a different Christmas market. If you want to really celebrate Christmas. I suggest Berlin. The markets are absolutely amazing! Ate dessert. And packed for Barcelona in the morning.

BARCELONA

DAY4

Our flight was for 8am. Flight time seemed like 45mins to an hour. It was very short. Went to another hostel. Only this time we ended up waiting at least 3 hours before we actually made it to our apartment in the city. Overall, the lady was extremely nice. And overly welcoming after she arrived 3 hours late. And the apartment was great. SO it all worked out. Saw mountains from a far. And of course the Sagrada Familia. Again, not to sure about my history. But this was an extremely large Roman Catholic church designed by Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926). You’ll have to research more. Our hostel was about 10minutes away from this beautiful church. It was our landmark to get home from our walking destinations each day. It is still not completed by the way. But it is absolutely amazing to see. The pictures do not show its justice. Not even a little. I also tried this nasty dish (see image below). All I can say is eww. At least I tried..ahaha

DAY5

Went to Barcelona famous Market Place: Mercado Boqueria. Very nice to see. Amazing food. Fresh and taken care of. Every fresh fruit possible. Every meat and fish in the sea. Side note: Lots of women butchers. Loved that! Love to see people going against the norm. Or maybe that is a North American thing. Anywho..The Picasso Museum was amazing. I love art. And I appreciate hard work and talent. And definitely imagination. Looking at some of the actual pieces from his work was absolutely amazing to see. He is by far my favorite artist of all time. This just put the icing on the cake for me.We walked to Barcelona Cathedral Church. Again, another amazing Church in this beautiful city. Outside we caught up with some street dancers who put on a slick and fun performance. Bought a wallet from a great store called Vaho. Absolutely amazing concept and idea. Hopefully I can hold on to this wallet for a very long time. Thank you guys! Walked some alley ways. Loved Gothic Quarter. Amazing people. Fun Shops. Lots to see!

DAY6:

Woke up late. Must have been tired from all the walking. Feet hurting. Note to self: Need  better traveling clothing and shoes. SMH. Starting to feel like an old man TODAY. Our morning routine included a local Starbucks for internet and planning for the day. It was a great way to start the morning. Went to FCB stadium. Very cool. Walked on the field. Saw the team bus. Went inside the locker room. Amazing. Just plain amazing. Ate some tapas. Apparently they only eat small meals in Barcelona. Well that is what it seemed like. I love the idea.lol Expensive but really good. PS: they serve potato chips with everything here. Not a bad idea either.lol

DAY7

Starbucks. Park Guell. Bread And Chinese Food. Can’t say this was a bad day at all. Note: Park Guell is the nicest. Most beautiful park I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Can’t say I’ve been to many parks. But this place was AWESOME. Again, designed by Antoni Gaudi. Enough said.

DAY8

Starbucks of course. And New Years. To keep it short. Again, being away from home and not celebrating the holidays was tough. But I thank Barcelona and Berlin and friends for making it a great time. Barcelona celebrates New Years like no other city in the world. I am definitely sure of this. If anyone knows me. They know I am not a big party person. I like to have a good time but I am very calm and relaxed. But the Champagne in the street. The town clock. The grapes (follow link to understand). The Razz ( Razzmatazz)(see link) closing at 8am. It was a crazy New Years in this city. Unforgettable.

BERLIN

DAY9&DAY10

Back to Berlin for the final leg of the trip. Literally ate, slept and read books the entire time. Was able to finish two books. Daymond John “The Brand Within” and Eric Thomas “The Secret to Success”. Great reads. Caused some super motivation. And crazy work ethic to look forward to in the new year (2013)

Finally arrived back to Kuwait

This was my holiday in a nutshell.

Again, sorry for the late post. But enjoy.

And if you take anything from this.

Honestly. I know this is an old saying.

And yes I hate saying it as well.

But really.

You only live once.

Be nice to people and believe in yourself.

The holidays are approaching (if not already started for many) and I want to express my upmost thanks to everyone who has supported the idea and cause. I really truly appreciate everything everyone has done for me: re-posting, re-tweeting, questions, purchases, patience., etc. Thank each and everyone of you!

I will be in Berlin, Germany for part of my holidays. And Barcelona Spain for the other half. Family and friends I miss and love all of you. Have a happy holiday and eat lots of turkeyJ Love you grandma!

Reminder:

Over the holidays, if and when you get time from turkey. Desserts of many flavors and a variety of friends and family invading your household. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what can you do during the holidays to make someone else’s holiday that much more special. I CHALLENGE YOU. A small token or a gift. A hug. Do something different. And allow others to see that you care. I challenge you to make a stranger happy over the break. I challenge you to reach outside your comfort zone and make someone you do not know smile.
