Thinking about yourself? #GoodIdea

BeAwesome: #327 Thoughts About Yourself

#LoveYourSelf

#LoveYourSelf

Because of fast trends, music, pop culture and people who our world is built around. Celebrities. Videos. Commercials. Technology. Social Media. We now allow all of these things to control who we are and what we do. We change when they change. We eat what they eat. We watch what they watch. We forget about our own image and thoughts. Even our own feelings. As an individual in the world, we need to realize that we are special too. We do not have to be rock stars to be special to someone.

 Think:

Love Yourself

When you wake up in the morning, and brush your teeth, get in the shower and eat breakfast, tell your self “ I love you”. We go days, weeks and even months and years, without having the conversation with ourselves. An important part of self-worth, and confidence is believing that you are special. Every day we will encounter someone or something that tries to make you feel inferior. You need to build your confidence so these moments are used as positives instead of negatives. Negative things are so beneficial to us, but we never realize and understand them until it is too late.

Loving yourself is agreeing that what you see and what you do, and who you are is what the world wants and needs. If you change that (because) of what others say, you are not being true to yourself. People give suggestions. People help change lives. But deep down you need to figure things out for yourself. You need to want to do it. And want to be whom you see in the mirror everyday. What can you do to remind yourself about your worth?

  1. Write down 5 things you love about yourself
  2. Name 5 things you are proud of
  3. Make a funny face and take a picture (frame it)
  4. Ask a best friend to write you a letter explaining why you are both friends
  5. Smile more

Please Read:

I can’t run the fastest

I can’t swim the sea

I can’t type the quickest
but

I love being me

I can’t kick a ball

or even climb a tree

I can’t roll in the grass
but

I still love being me

You see, this is my life

as others would see
they

don’t know what it’s like

to really be me

So next time I’m about

rolling down the street

don’t think of me disabled

but someone cool to meet

I have lots I can teach you

I have loads I can share

you will never gain my wisdom

if you just point and stare

So maybe I can’t run the fastest

maybe I can’t kick a ball

but I wouldn’t change being me

not for you, not at all

Why life is like crossing the street..

BeAwesome: Life is like crossing the street

LookBothWays

LookBothWays

TAKEALOOKFIRST

I’ve talked about it briefly before. But I never broke down the importance of  looking first before involving yourself into a situation or occasion. What is this “first look” you ask. Well it is something we do (should do) before involving ourselves into something new.

Throughout life, things normally do not “just happen”. Of course during the odd time, something will happen that we are unaware of, or have no control over. But for the most part, we are aware of outcomes, and possibilities that may occur on a day-to-day basis. We have an idea of what may or may not happen.

LOOKBOTHWAYS

We have 7 days in a week. 24 hours in a day. And a long year. We as society, are so busy. We get involved and carry out our professions and occupations every day, without realizing the time and months that pass by. Why slow down and look right? Today the average person finds him or herself wrapped into conversations, jobs, events and even experiences without really realizing the time and efforts that is taking place. We never stop to see first. Or just take a look. We try to climb mountains without knowing how high it is. We get into our cars and drive, without understanding the direction we are going. We eat food without realizing the temperature. In society we often forget to “look first”.

Something I’ve learned at very young age from my parents, is that “ you should always look both ways before you cross the street”. Now this may sound like a normal thing to do, but should remember to consistently look, every time we cross. Is their anything coming? Is it okay to step out, and make our way to the next street or sidewalk. What color is the traffic light? We forget to visualize the image of what may or could happen if we do not stop and “look” first. We just walk out in front. That is when we get ourselves into trouble. We forget to create a mental image. We forget to look first.

– Red Light: Stop: If you see the red light—–>Stop and think about what you are about to do. Are your prepared for what is about to happen next, after you cross the street. Are you mentally and physically ready for any type of outcome. Uncertainty. Failure. Disappointment. Love. Happiness. Change. Emotions. Anything can happen once you’ve made it across, it is up to you to figure out how you react to this outcome. Don’t be afraid to stop. Stopping simply means you are big enough to understand the situation and willing to think about it before you go forward.

Green Light: Go: If you see the green light—–> Go don’t look back. Confidently take this direction and move with a head of steam until you reach your destination. Be aware of the changes that may take place during this walk across the street. But again, be brave and confident that this is the right decision.

-Yellow Light: Yield: If you see the yellow light—–> Yield and step back. Be tempted but really think about what it is you are about to do. Is the temptation worth the risk or reward. Are you ready to make this big step. What and how will this affect you and the people around you. Why are you doing this. And what are my options now. And later. Yellow means take your time and think about what you really want to do. Seek advice and take a step back from the idea.

REALLIFE

While growing up, and becoming a specific age, you have the freedom to make your own decisions. Sometimes we take this privilege for granted. When we were young, all of these decisions were made and decided for us. IT was easy. What color clothes we would wear to school. What was in our lunch boxes. Today is a little different. Today considers a first look at the situation. Or experience you are getting yourself into.

Be careful how you live, you will be the only Bible some people only read-  William J. Toms

Consider life-like crossing the street. Always look both ways before you get wrapped up into a situation you are unsure of. Unbalanced. Worry. Always be aware of the traffic lights that may cause you to stop, yield or go in a specific direction. First look at YOUR idea of satisfactory and what will make you happy from the outcome you are about to make. Cross carefully. And First look.

ImInKuwait: Week21 (Today & Holiday Update)

Kuwait: Week 21(Update)

TODAY

Life in Kuwait has been great (so far) ahah Everything has been going smoothly. I am blessed again, to have a great support group at home. And a core group of friends around me in Kuwait. Thanks everyone!:-) This week has been really busy for me in school, with international week coming up. Along with report cards. We’ve already been through 2 weeks since the holiday break? Time is flying. We have another break next week. A long with a February break as well. Not to mention the holiday in April. Not sure where I will end up, but I am now thinking Turkey or Lebanon. Possibly some place in Africa on the way from after school is over. I have friends that are currently living there (Lebanon & Turkey). So it may be my next destination. Africa is on the back burner for now. but I will see you soon:-)

UPDATE

Before anything I would like to apologize for the lack of updating on my Kuwait experience. The past few weeks along with the past holiday has come and gone so fast. I’ve been able to update the blog, but not necessarily allowing everyone to join me on my journey.

The last time you checked, I was watching camels and hanging out in the desert. Since then a lot has happened. I will and cannot give you everything in great detail, but I will give you a short burst of highlight, of the past couple of weeks (PS: it has been approximately 38 days since I posted) Again, terribly sorry. If wondering, I am still in Kuwait. And I am still teaching grade 2.ahaha

It’s been a while but here is what my holiday looked like:

PS: I suggest clicking on the links to other websites that explain some of the experiences I had (ie. Food, places)

BERLIN

DAY1

Arrived in Berlin during the morning. From looking out of the airplane window I could see the snow on the trees. The cold in the air. Crazy thing is, I was kind of excited. In a nutshell. I got lost. Not technically on purpose. But I went for a walk from my hostel. And ended up on a lovely street with shopping, christmas lights and markets. Went to a few stores. Saw a variety of cool people. Ate a fabulous sausage (obessed). First time in a hostel. Right away, I could tell Berlin really celebrated the holidays. Lights and happy cheers EVERYWHERE.

DAY2

We did A LOT of walking. It was fine. I definitely needed the work out. But boy did we walk. On the second day we went to the Holocaust Memorial. If you are unfamiliar with your history. It is a place dedicated to the Jewish victims during the Holocaust. It was a very intense moment for me. Again, with all of the new surroundings and such. It was a lot to take in. It snowed today. And lots of it. And wet. It was yucky! Went to the market. Ate another sausage (obsessed) and tried to find mittens (The mitten hunt begins!) Overall, successful day! PS: went to a pretty cool café that serve some tasty pastry’s as well (See pictures below)

DAY3:

It was Christmas day. Even though it really did not feel like it at all. Missing everyone from home. But we tried to just enjoy ourselves throughout the duration of our travels. What do you do on Christmas? We went to the Zoo! And was it ever fun. I got to see an elephant for the first time! Tigers. Rhinos. Penguins.  Sharks. And lots of other cool animals. It was really fun. We also went back to a different Christmas market. If you want to really celebrate Christmas. I suggest Berlin. The markets are absolutely amazing! Ate dessert. And packed for Barcelona in the morning.

BARCELONA

DAY4

Our flight was for 8am. Flight time seemed like 45mins to an hour. It was very short. Went to another hostel. Only this time we ended up waiting at least 3 hours before we actually made it to our apartment in the city. Overall, the lady was extremely nice. And overly welcoming after she arrived 3 hours late. And the apartment was great. SO it all worked out. Saw mountains from a far. And of course the Sagrada Familia. Again, not to sure about my history. But this was an extremely large Roman Catholic church designed by Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926). You’ll have to research more. Our hostel was about 10minutes away from this beautiful church. It was our landmark to get home from our walking destinations each day. It is still not completed by the way. But it is absolutely amazing to see. The pictures do not show its justice. Not even a little. I also tried this nasty dish (see image below). All I can say is eww. At least I tried..ahaha

DAY5

Went to Barcelona famous Market Place: Mercado Boqueria. Very nice to see. Amazing food. Fresh and taken care of. Every fresh fruit possible. Every meat and fish in the sea. Side note: Lots of women butchers. Loved that! Love to see people going against the norm. Or maybe that is a North American thing. Anywho..The Picasso Museum was amazing. I love art. And I appreciate hard work and talent. And definitely imagination. Looking at some of the actual pieces from his work was absolutely amazing to see. He is by far my favorite artist of all time. This just put the icing on the cake for me.We walked to Barcelona Cathedral Church. Again, another amazing Church in this beautiful city. Outside we caught up with some street dancers who put on a slick and fun performance. Bought a wallet from a great store called Vaho. Absolutely amazing concept and idea. Hopefully I can hold on to this wallet for a very long time. Thank you guys! Walked some alley ways. Loved Gothic Quarter. Amazing people. Fun Shops. Lots to see!

DAY6:

Woke up late. Must have been tired from all the walking. Feet hurting. Note to self: Need  better traveling clothing and shoes. SMH. Starting to feel like an old man TODAY. Our morning routine included a local Starbucks for internet and planning for the day. It was a great way to start the morning. Went to FCB stadium. Very cool. Walked on the field. Saw the team bus. Went inside the locker room. Amazing. Just plain amazing. Ate some tapas. Apparently they only eat small meals in Barcelona. Well that is what it seemed like. I love the idea.lol Expensive but really good. PS: they serve potato chips with everything here. Not a bad idea either.lol

DAY7

Starbucks. Park Guell. Bread And Chinese Food. Can’t say this was a bad day at all. Note: Park Guell is the nicest. Most beautiful park I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Can’t say I’ve been to many parks. But this place was AWESOME. Again, designed by Antoni Gaudi. Enough said.

DAY8

Starbucks of course. And New Years. To keep it short. Again, being away from home and not celebrating the holidays was tough. But I thank Barcelona and Berlin and friends for making it a great time. Barcelona celebrates New Years like no other city in the world. I am definitely sure of this. If anyone knows me. They know I am not a big party person. I like to have a good time but I am very calm and relaxed. But the Champagne in the street. The town clock. The grapes (follow link to understand). The Razz ( Razzmatazz)(see link) closing at 8am. It was a crazy New Years in this city. Unforgettable.

BERLIN

DAY9&DAY10

Back to Berlin for the final leg of the trip. Literally ate, slept and read books the entire time. Was able to finish two books. Daymond John “The Brand Within” and Eric Thomas “The Secret to Success”. Great reads. Caused some super motivation. And crazy work ethic to look forward to in the new year (2013)

Finally arrived back to Kuwait

This was my holiday in a nutshell.

Again, sorry for the late post. But enjoy.

And if you take anything from this.

Honestly. I know this is an old saying.

And yes I hate saying it as well.

But really.

You only live once.

Be nice to people and believe in yourself.

BeAwesome: #82 Dance

BeAwesome: #82 Dance

Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance-Dave Barry

Opportunity dances with those already on the dance floor-H. Jackson Brown Jr.

NoExcuses

Everyone can dance! (Don’t judge). Why is dancing important? Well dancing has so many benefits we often take for granted. Who’s to say what dancing really is? Don’t allow others to judge you. Like said before, who really cares what others think, specially about your dancing. If they are so concerned about the way you move your hips and behind, they will probably tell you. If not, keep shaking and enjoying every dance. As long as you are having fun and around the people you love, that is the only thing that really matters. Obviously dancing is great for exercise. It is a great way to become physically active and increase flexibility and stamina. Of course it is. But dancing helps with a lot more. Dancing is about building personal confidence in yourself to do what ever you want without feeling put down by others (the haters). Dancing is about building the courage to become what you want to be and not what others see you as. Dancing is about putting yourself in a place where know one else can reach you (not literally). Those who are AWESOME dance! We use dancing as tool to be successful. We use dancing as an outlet to a place “we” only understand. Dance
