Champion VS Normal Person

BeAwesome: #329 How to be  Champion Instead of a Normal Person

Olympics Day 6 - Gymnastics - Artistic

Olympian&GoldMedalist

20% of the World are Champions, the Rest are Normal People

Our world is built upon normal people and champions. Which one are you? Champion? Good choice..

Why is it that less than 20% of our world are champions, and the rest are normal people? Nothing against normal people, but being a champion is much better don’t ya think. What is it that champions do that normal people don’t? What is it that champions have that normal people don’t have? These are all questions we ask ourselves…

Genetics

One of the main things that people use as an excuse for not being successful or smart is genetics. And yes, genetics can benefit you in a variety of ways  BUT genetics do not “make” you do anything. YOU, make yourself do/not do what ever it is the task maybe. You tell yourself you can’t do something, and it more than likely will not be completed.  But this is not the soul reason why specific individuals are champions. What exactly are genetics?  The study of heredity and the variation of inherited characteristics. Still don’t get it? It is simply a process where parents pass down certain genes onto their children. Every child has some gene from their both biological parents.

Now after reading about genetics, does it say anywhere (above) that genetics make people work hard, stay focused or be determined? With genetics helping a bit, it still does not make the individual use these traits (or so called gifts) involuntarily. Is it an advantage? Sure. But only as much as you think. It is only as much as an advantage, as you want it to be.

genetics

Use what you have

Everyone  is born a superstar. It is up to us to let the world know what kind of star you are. We read articles and journals all the time with headlines such as: Born a Star or  Special Talent, etc. We watch and see as individuals rise above obstacles to reach their full-potential on the biggest stage; CEO of major companies, athletes, actress, and entertainers, lawyers, doctors, teachers. These are all professions. Of course some are more intriguing than others, but each profession is something NOT given to you on day one when you are born.

Recently I had the opportunity to read and article about successful people who worked at Mc.Donalds. Rachel McAdams, a Canadian Actress. Fred Durst, American Musician and Film Director. Jeff Bezos, CEO and founder of Amazon. Sharon Stone, fashion model, actress and producer. Macy Gray, musician. Jay Leno, stand up comedian and Tv Host. And the list goes on and on. Do some of them have genetics from their parents? Of course. They all do. But are their parents all famous? No. Did they have to work hard to get where they are in life? Yes.

Finding your purpose for the world is one of the most difficult things you will ever do in your life. Figuring out what you love and do well is not easy. Sometimes you have to go through 2-3-4-possibly 5 other things before you find that something. The secret to being a Champion is to never give up while searching. Once you find that something, you try to maximize that potential in that area.

Here are 2 things Champions have:

Champions have a REASON as well as a PURPOSE for what they are doing. This is the beast that drives them to the maximum amount of potential and growth in their given field or profession. When you have a reason to do something, this reason causes you to become motivated to reach your goal. Have you ever wondered why professionals have so many cool stories about their childhood, and they had to work really hard to reach their full potential. Champions use their negative experiences to drive and create positive outcomes. Normal people don’t have these reasons and most of the time do not have a purpose either. Normal people walk through life and take what ever it is the world decides to give them. Champions play a role in both factors (walking and decision-making)

In some way, shape or form, everyone starts from the bottom and tries to make their way to the top.

Be in the 20% of the world that decides to be a Champion.

ImInKuwait: Week21 (Today & Holiday Update)

Kuwait: Week 21(Update)

Today.Jan28th/2013Kuwait

Today.Jan28th/2013Kuwait

TODAY

Life in Kuwait has been great (so far) ahah Everything has been going smoothly. I am blessed again, to have a great support group at home. And a core group of friends around me in Kuwait. Thanks everyone!:-) This week has been really busy for me in school, with international week coming up. Along with report cards. We’ve already been through 2 weeks since the holiday break? Time is flying. We have another break next week. A long with a February break as well. Not to mention the holiday in April. Not sure where I will end up, but I am now thinking Turkey or Lebanon. Possibly some place in Africa on the way from after school is over. I have friends that are currently living there (Lebanon & Turkey). So it may be my next destination. Africa is on the back burner for now. but I will see you soon:-)

UPDATE

Before anything I would like to apologize for the lack of updating on my Kuwait experience. The past few weeks along with the past holiday has come and gone so fast. I’ve been able to update the blog, but not necessarily allowing everyone to join me on my journey.

The last time you checked, I was watching camels and hanging out in the desert. Since then a lot has happened. I will and cannot give you everything in great detail, but I will give you a short burst of highlight, of the past couple of weeks (PS: it has been approximately 38 days since I posted) Again, terribly sorry. If wondering, I am still in Kuwait. And I am still teaching grade 2.ahaha

It’s been a while but here is what my holiday looked like:

PS: I suggest clicking on the links to other websites that explain some of the experiences I had (ie. Food, places)

BERLIN

DAY1

Arrived in Berlin during the morning. From looking out of the airplane window I could see the snow on the trees. The cold in the air. Crazy thing is, I was kind of excited. In a nutshell. I got lost. Not technically on purpose. But I went for a walk from my hostel. And ended up on a lovely street with shopping, christmas lights and markets. Went to a few stores. Saw a variety of cool people. Ate a fabulous sausage (obessed). First time in a hostel. Right away, I could tell Berlin really celebrated the holidays. Lights and happy cheers EVERYWHERE.

DAY2

We did A LOT of walking. It was fine. I definitely needed the work out. But boy did we walk. On the second day we went to the Holocaust Memorial. If you are unfamiliar with your history. It is a place dedicated to the Jewish victims during the Holocaust. It was a very intense moment for me. Again, with all of the new surroundings and such. It was a lot to take in. It snowed today. And lots of it. And wet. It was yucky! Went to the market. Ate another sausage (obsessed) and tried to find mittens (The mitten hunt begins!) Overall, successful day! PS: went to a pretty cool café that serve some tasty pastry’s as well (See pictures below)

DAY3:

It was Christmas day. Even though it really did not feel like it at all. Missing everyone from home. But we tried to just enjoy ourselves throughout the duration of our travels. What do you do on Christmas? We went to the Zoo! And was it ever fun. I got to see an elephant for the first time! Tigers. Rhinos. Penguins.  Sharks. And lots of other cool animals. It was really fun. We also went back to a different Christmas market. If you want to really celebrate Christmas. I suggest Berlin. The markets are absolutely amazing! Ate dessert. And packed for Barcelona in the morning.

BARCELONA

DAY4

Our flight was for 8am. Flight time seemed like 45mins to an hour. It was very short. Went to another hostel. Only this time we ended up waiting at least 3 hours before we actually made it to our apartment in the city. Overall, the lady was extremely nice. And overly welcoming after she arrived 3 hours late. And the apartment was great. SO it all worked out. Saw mountains from a far. And of course the Sagrada Familia. Again, not to sure about my history. But this was an extremely large Roman Catholic church designed by Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926). You’ll have to research more. Our hostel was about 10minutes away from this beautiful church. It was our landmark to get home from our walking destinations each day. It is still not completed by the way. But it is absolutely amazing to see. The pictures do not show its justice. Not even a little. I also tried this nasty dish (see image below). All I can say is eww. At least I tried..ahaha

DAY5

Went to Barcelona famous Market Place: Mercado Boqueria. Very nice to see. Amazing food. Fresh and taken care of. Every fresh fruit possible. Every meat and fish in the sea. Side note: Lots of women butchers. Loved that! Love to see people going against the norm. Or maybe that is a North American thing. Anywho..The Picasso Museum was amazing. I love art. And I appreciate hard work and talent. And definitely imagination. Looking at some of the actual pieces from his work was absolutely amazing to see. He is by far my favorite artist of all time. This just put the icing on the cake for me.We walked to Barcelona Cathedral Church. Again, another amazing Church in this beautiful city. Outside we caught up with some street dancers who put on a slick and fun performance. Bought a wallet from a great store called Vaho. Absolutely amazing concept and idea. Hopefully I can hold on to this wallet for a very long time. Thank you guys! Walked some alley ways. Loved Gothic Quarter. Amazing people. Fun Shops. Lots to see!

DAY6:

Woke up late. Must have been tired from all the walking. Feet hurting. Note to self: Need  better traveling clothing and shoes. SMH. Starting to feel like an old man TODAY. Our morning routine included a local Starbucks for internet and planning for the day. It was a great way to start the morning. Went to FCB stadium. Very cool. Walked on the field. Saw the team bus. Went inside the locker room. Amazing. Just plain amazing. Ate some tapas. Apparently they only eat small meals in Barcelona. Well that is what it seemed like. I love the idea.lol Expensive but really good. PS: they serve potato chips with everything here. Not a bad idea either.lol

DAY7

Starbucks. Park Guell. Bread And Chinese Food. Can’t say this was a bad day at all. Note: Park Guell is the nicest. Most beautiful park I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Can’t say I’ve been to many parks. But this place was AWESOME. Again, designed by Antoni Gaudi. Enough said.

DAY8

Starbucks of course. And New Years. To keep it short. Again, being away from home and not celebrating the holidays was tough. But I thank Barcelona and Berlin and friends for making it a great time. Barcelona celebrates New Years like no other city in the world. I am definitely sure of this. If anyone knows me. They know I am not a big party person. I like to have a good time but I am very calm and relaxed. But the Champagne in the street. The town clock. The grapes (follow link to understand). The Razz ( Razzmatazz)(see link) closing at 8am. It was a crazy New Years in this city. Unforgettable.

BERLIN

DAY9&DAY10

Back to Berlin for the final leg of the trip. Literally ate, slept and read books the entire time. Was able to finish two books. Daymond John “The Brand Within” and Eric Thomas “The Secret to Success”. Great reads. Caused some super motivation. And crazy work ethic to look forward to in the new year (2013)

Finally arrived back to Kuwait

This was my holiday in a nutshell.

Again, sorry for the late post. But enjoy.

And if you take anything from this.

Honestly. I know this is an old saying.

And yes I hate saying it as well.

But really.

You only live once.

Be nice to people and believe in yourself.

12 AWESOME Tips for the Holidays: Trueman’s Blog

The 12 Tips of Christmas, Tips #5 and #6!  (<–Ryans Blog)

Hey guys,

Work has been really busy, so I apologize for these coming together tonight!  That said, those who have asked questions who I haven’t replied to yet remind me of your questions as I have been overwhelmed and am trying my best going through everything after work.  Sorry for the delay!

Tip # 5!

Eat Breakfast!  Eating breakfast will help jump start your metabolism in the morning and set the stage for calorie burning all day!  What happens is while you are asleep your body slows down your metabolism as a survival mechanism, and when you don’t eat breakfast your body stays in this starvation mode.  Even worse it slows down even more the longer you go!  So get up and get breakfast into you!  Bonus! Eat those delicious nutritious fats! (NO TRANS FATS) This will help your body to trigger fat burning all day. Additionally make sure it includes protein (30g within 30 minutes is ideal) and has as few grams of simple sugars as possible!  This means have things like ezekiel bread with natural peanut butter or eggs and not Lucky Charms! (although they are so good, save them for cheat day)

Tip #6!

Relax and enjoy the time you do have.  By enjoying yourself and finding time for you to relax you will greatly lower your stress levels.  Elevated stress levels come with a number of health conditions like high blood pressure, but it also causes your energy systems to be elevated and overstimulated.  Think of it like this, a stressed body is like a 6th grader after a fun dip and a red bull!   This causes a lot of calories to be stored so your body can maintain this high energy level.  Additionally, you also have to address the comfort that comes from food as a way to cope with stress.  This will escalate your chances of relapsing on your diet!  So guys, remember the holidays are about family and friends, not presents and stress.  So enjoy your time together and stay healthier!

*Alternatively, you can also lose weight when you are high stressed due to the constant stimulation of your energy levels.  If you are in this group please see a doctor, or make lifestyle changes, because most of this reduction in weight isn’t you losing fat, it is your body literally wasting away.  Both fat and structural tissues like muscles and weakened bone from malnutrition!

Cheers,
Ryan Trueman

A FUTURE

We hear about this story all the time. One get’s cut from his high school basketball team. From Brooklyn New York, he was out to prove himself at a young age. With his close friend Harvest being the only sophomore to make the team that year. He was motivated. He was hungry to make his life what he wanted it to be. He feed from failure. He was pushed by the words and comments of others around him. The following summer he grew and found a spot on the varsity team averaging 20points per game in his final two season of his high school career. What happen next? Well if you haven’t figured it out already (I would be surprised if you didn’t). 5 NBA Most Valuable Player Awards. 6 NBA Championships. 10 NBA Scoring Titles. 10 All-NBA First Team. 14 NBA ALL Star Appearances. 2 Olympic Gold Medals. 6 NBA Final MVPS. And the list goes on and on and on. How did this happen? Did this individual just wake up and be given all of these things? Did he magically grow tall and be given the skill to compete at a high level. This individual produced. He produced at a level in which everyone should be trying to reach. Can we all be Michael Jordan ( Of course not) Can we try to work hard like him (Definitely)

PRODUCE

Make or manufacture from components or raw materials. Grow. By Farming. By Grooming. Creating. Generating something. Present. Output a manner that is impossible to be broken. Get up and create something you believe in. When an individual is asked to create something out of nothing. They have 2 options. Try it. Or Quit. Individuals who try to figure out what works, what produce at a higher level. Individuals who quit. Will never find out. They will miss out on the experience and reason why things happen. Everything in life has a reason why (this is my own opinion) I think the worst things are used to create better things for the future. We cannot control bad things from happening. (This is life) But we can try to make these things never happen again. Produce a level of commitment to reach a goal or a passion you want to create. Produce a level of confidence that other people do not understand. Produce a way of life that is fitting for you and not the people on the outside of your life.

BEAWESOME

Those who are AWESOME produce. We grow from experiences and produce what we want our future to be. We are guided by our thoughts and motivations. Not by a book. Or another human being (Though we take advice often). We understand our life and where we are going. We create a plan and stick with it. We find a love or a passion and follow it.

ImInKuwait: Week 14

ImInKuwait: Week 14

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American Friends! This was a busy week. And yet again very short as well. A half a day on Wednesday. And no school on Thursday(For the kids). The teachers spent half of the day Wednesday with parent teacher. And a full day on Thursday doing the same. Overall I feel as though they went very well. I have some really nice parents (knock on wood) that it continues. They are all very understanding. And want their children to do well. It is easy to appreciate parents and children with that mentality. Parents came with questions and I provided the answers:) Well I think I did, anyways.

If you did not know, Canadian Thanksgiving is on October 4th. I was able to celebrate both American and Canadian Thanksgiving this year. Having the opportunity to spend this time with a different family was absolutely amazing. I usually go to my grandmother’s house, and we (as a family) share this special time together. Being away from home, has made this occasion impossible. Via Skype I was able to join my family during Canadian Thanksgiving. It was hard to watch at times, but I was happy to see that everyone was continuing the tradition that we had started.

Yummm

On Thursday, memories and flashbacks started once I arrived for Thanksgiving at a friend’s house. Kids playing. Adults chatting and talking about sports and work. Bread and cheese offered by the handful. Music. It was very fancy and homey. The comfort level of everyone seemed so calm and relaxed. For the time I forgot about Kuwait and being away from home. The hospitality that was presented by these individuals was amazing. The decorations (which we usually do not do so much at home) really put a finishing touch on the experience.

What did we eat? Well everything that is involved in a successful Thanksgiving was available. The softest mashed potatoes in the world. Asparagus wrapped in bacon (The real stuff). Squash covered with bread crumbs and cinnamon. Ham cut to perfection. Mushrooms steamed and seasoned nicely. Potato salad with bit of corn mixed and mingled in the middle. Sweet potato. Oh how I love sweet potato. Carrot and sweet potato soup. Corn bread. And of course the turkey. This bird couldn’t have been done any better. It was tender. Covered in gravy and easily one of the best turkey’s I’ve had. My hat goes off to the gentlemen who done such a great job. Dessert? Well pumpkin pie. Apple pie. Cheesecake. A oreo cake shaped like a mountain. Chocolate cupcakes. And Nutmeg bars.

Really looking forward to Dubai this weekend. The Rugby7’s are going awesome. It will be my first trip outside of Kuwait. And 24 days until Berlin and Barcelona. The count down is on:-) Side note:new  i phone this week;-)

Interesting facts of the week:

– Dubai this weekend(Rugby 7’s)

– Weather is between 15-24 (Chilly)

-Prices in Kuwait are either very cheap or very expensive

Seems as though they take American prices

BeAwesome: #249 Attack

BeAwesome: #249 Attack

As soon as the fear approaches near, attack and destroy it- Chanakya

ATTACK!

Some of us are aggressive. (In a variety of ways of course) We attack. Take action. Some like to call these people go getters. Attack is a word often used as a negative offence towards another person, place or thing. We often associate the word violence or hitting. Assault. Offensive. Enemies or bad people. We use the word to identify what is good and what is bad. We use the word to shape our thoughts on what is right and what is wrong. We allow an attack to influence our perception on an idea. Or thinking on a choice or decision. Attack with and when ready to take the next step. Attack a fear or a thought of uncertainties. Attack a worry or a sad face with courage. When you attack something be cautious of your surroundings. Be cautious of the effect it may have on yourself and the people around you. Those who are awesome attack. We attack what we want and trigger what we need until we get it. We are careful. We never go beyond exhaustion one thing. We understand when enough is enough. We go after things we want and make them happen. Or at least try anyways. Attack

Just play, have fun, enjoy the game- Michael Jordan

It’s the game of life. Do I win or do I lose? One day they’re gonna shut the game down. I gotta have as much fun and go around the board as many times as I can before it’s my turn to leave-  Tupac Shakur

HavingFunIsAPartofBeingSuccessful

What is life without fun. What is fun without life. It is easy to forget what fun really is, like it is easy to forget what you love and feel passionate about. Fun is something we often misunderstand, or take more or less than too much time doing. I am not the one to tell you how much fun you should be having or what you should consider fun, but I can tell you this…. Fun is when you smile. Fun is when you have lack of worry or struggle. Fun is happy. A time free of stress and negative emotions. Fun is doing what you love. Being around the people you cherish. Fun is your favourite food or favourite colour. Fun is doing what you dream about every night. Fun is a nap. Fun is the last chocolate chip cookie in the jar. Fun is  your grandmas baking. Fun is tag in the park with friends. Fun is seeing your friend for the first time in 2 years. Fun is a hard work. Those who are AWESOME have fun. Of course we work hard. But the ability to balance fun and work is easy. We make fun in our work. Fun
